Vico Sotto kinastigo sina Julius Babao, Korina Sanchez sa ‘paid interviews’ kina Discaya

TINAWAG ng Pasig City Mayor na si Vico Sotto ang pansin ng mga mamamahayag na sina Julius Babao at Korina Sanchez hinggil sa umano’y paid interviews nila sa mag-asawang Curlee at Sarah Discaya.

Sa kanyang Facebook page, ibinahagi ng alkalde ang screenshot mula sa YouTube ng panayam sa mag-asawa ng mga kilalang broadcasters ng bansa.

“Bago tanggapin ng mga kilalang journalists ang alok para mag-interview ng Contractor na Pumapasok sa Politika, hindi ba nila naisip na, ‘Uy teka, ba’t kaya handa ’to magbigay ng 10 million* para lang magpa-interview sa akin??’” panimula ni Mayor Vico.

Pagpapatuloy niya, “I know for a fact that there are many good, honest people in media who are disappointed, if not angered, at practices like this which undermine the integrity of their profession.”

Ani Vico, bagamat hindi illegal ang ginawa nilang panayam ay sapat mahiya ang dalawa sa ginawa nila.

“Puwede silang magtago sa grey areas: ‘hindi naman journalism ito… more of lifestyle lang… kailangan kasi ng sponsor…’ pero ’wag na tayong maglokohan.

“They rose to national prominence as broadcast journalists/news personalities; puhunan [dapat] nila ang kanilang reputasyon at kredibilidad… at sa ganitong kalakaran, ito rin ang reputasyon at kredibilidad na pinahihiram nila sa mga corrupt kapalit ng [pera],” lahad pa ni Vico.

Sinabi rin ng Pasig City mayor na ang korupsyon sa bansa ay “systemic” at ito’y nagaganap hindi lang sa gobyerno

“But we can slowly but surely break this cycle if more and more of us consistently do our part, wherever we are and whatever our position may be, one step at a time,” sey ni Vico.

Matatandaang muling naging usap-usapan ang mga Discaya matapos mapag-alaman na dalawa sa kanilang mga kumpanya ang na-identify na bahagi ng Top 15 flood control contractors  ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na iprinisinta kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos.

Isa rin si Sarah Discaya sa mga nagpadala ng excuse letter sa nagdaang Senate Blue Ribbon Committee na nagsabing mayroon siyang prior commitment kaya hindi ito nakadalo sa August 19 hearing.

Si Sarah Discaya ang nakalaban ni Vico Sotto sa pagka-alkalde sa nagdaang 2025 midterm elections.
