Maine Mendoza Shares Her Fave *Budol* Purchase, Spending Tips, And More

Six years ago, Maine Mendoza charmed our hearts with her relatability and quirkiness on Eat Bulaga. She's achieved so many milestones in her hosting, acting, and singing career, but is adding another feather on her cap: as Lazada's newest ambassador. And to celebrate it, Lazada is launching their newest sale, the Lazada Sulit Sweldo Sale. It'll happen TWICE a month, coinciding with the 15th and 30th pay days. For August, the Sulit Sweldo Sale will happen on August 15 to 17 and August 28 to 31!

Cosmo got the chance to interview Maine and in our quick chat, she shared her biggest budol purchase (Clue: It has to do with her boyfriend Arjo Atayde!), what she's learned about shopping and spending, and how she's been doing in the pandemic.

What's your biggest budol purchase in the pandemic so far?

Feeling ko the biggest Lazada budol purchase would be the VR console. Yes, kasi I bought THREE so talagang major budol! *laughs* So I bought one for me, for Arjo, and if a friend comes over, sa kanya yung third console.

What kind of Lazada shopper are you: Are you practical or impulsive?

Parang I am both. Sometimes I wait for the sale to get the best deals, especially when I am purchasing a lot of things. Pero most times, after adding items to cart—feeling ko, lahat naman tayo makaka-relate—check out na agad! So I'd say it depends on the items that I wanna get.

Was your VR console a practical or impulsive purchase?

Impulsive talaga! *laughs* Kasi nakita ko siya one day online, then I got interested. I purchased one, tapos nag-enjoy ako. Tinry din ni Arjo, and then nag-enjoy din siya. So naisip namin if we're gonna invite a friend, siyempre ayaw naman naming ma-OP, so we purchased another one for our guests. And sulit naman din talaga! It's worth it, promise!

Has anything changed in your shopping or spending habits in the pandemic compared to before?

I try to resist the urge to shop for unnecessary stuff as much as I can. Kasi before, I just buy whatever I want. Minsan nga, I don't even get to use the things that I buy. So ngayon, I try to think it through. And there are some factors that come into play. Like before making a big purchase, I ask myself if, "Is it practical?" "Do I really need this?" "Am I gonna use it?" Or after nun, tatanungin ko pa sarili ko, "Am I really gonna use it?" And lastly, "Will I get to use it?"

Naha-handle ko naman yung urge whenever I wanna shop. And I really feel the need to save up now. Pero sometimes, of course, I still reward myself with things for all the hard work I do, especially now in the pandemic. And I think it's really important to treat yourself sometimes. Deserve natin 'yon! Lagi natin sasabihin, "Deserve ko 'to!" And we have different ways of coping, and some of us really resort to shopping kahit yung mga little things. 'Di naman kailangan big purchases or what.

Do you have any tips you can share with Cosmo Girls when it comes to shopping?

There's this one thing that my sister always tells me before making a big purchase. Sabi niya sa akin, "Kapag iniisip mo pa din after three days, bilhin mo na." Although I'm not sure if that's good advice or not! Basta, always track your expenses to avoid overspending and spend within your means.

How do you keep your mental and physical health in top shape in spite of the pandemic?

I take breaks. I think that's really important. We all need it and it's necessary. Ako, I don't wanna overthink and overwork din so I try to take breaks and get my mind of everything. Minsan din I try to shop. I shop to treat myself. Medyo parang nakaka-relieve siya ng pagod and stress nowadays. Sometimes during my free time, I try to do yoga since I find it to be the most convenient exercise for a noob like me. So dun na lang ako muna.  I think nagwo-work naman siya for me.
