Was Maris Racal addressing bashers of her relationship with Rico Blanco in her recent Instagram Story?

On Monday, May 31, the actress posted a photo of a cake with the message, "Age is just a number."

On the same day, news reports broke out after Maris confirmed in an interview that she and Rico were indeed dating, after months of speculation from the public.

"Kami po ni Rico. I think basing sa post na ginawa ko, I think it's very obvious."

While a lot of fans got kilig when they went official, other netizens expressed their criticism due to Maris and Rico's age difference. 

"Rico naman, 25 years your junior, sana ikaw na yung lumayo," tweeted one netizen in response to ABS-CBN's tweet confirming Maris and Rico's relationship.

"Nakakaloka... I'm not excited... She's so young for him," reacted another.

Other users came to the defense of the celebrity couple, expressing their support and encouragement.

"Congrats, Maris. Age doesn't matter naman; sana all matapang ipangalandakan ang someone nila," said one netizen.

"Parehas naman kayo single kaya go, go, go, congrats," tweeted another.

Maris and Rico first sparked dating rumors in March 2021 when Maris posted a special birthday greeting for Rico on his 48th birthday, which included a tender moment between the two as Maris sang while Rico played Aqualung's "Brighter than Sunshine."

Fans were quick to dig up posts of the two from as early as 2018 when Maris called Rico her "idol," and in 2019 when they collaborated on Maris' song "Abot Langit."
