Everything You *Need To Know* About Korea Town, According To Mayor Isko Moreno
In March 2021, a lot of us were super-excited after hearing that Mayor Isko Moreno and Ambassador to the Philippines Han Dong Man were talking about building a Korea Town in Manila! Well, it's DEFINITELY happening. In a recent interview with Summit Media journalists, Mayor Isko talked about the upcoming development, which will be located in Malate.
"Oh my god, it's in the pipeline! We already passed the ordinance," he told Cosmo.ph. Mayor Isko says he signed the ordinance about a month ago. "Because there is already a law, what we're going to do next is appropriate 'X' amount to develop the entire said area in Malate. Kasi ang gusto talaga namin doon is job generation and tourism. Talagang nanggigigil kami kasi ang dami naming puwedeng ibenta sa Manila!"
He gushed over the "character" of Manila, the diversity of its population, and how rich it is in history. And because of the "Korean invasion" in the Philippines, they thought developing Korea Town would be a great way to "generate more traction."
However, Manila's Korea Town is not the ultimate priority at the moment. "Focus muna tayo sa pandemic. Mayroon pa namang time...Health and economy or job generation at the very least is a matter of policy now."
