Meralco may bawas-singil sa kuryente ngayong Mayo kahit may oil crisis

BAHAGYANG liliit ang bayarin sa kuryente ngayong Mayo matapos magpatupad ng kaunting bawas-singil ang Meralco.

Ito ay sa kabila ng pangamba sa posibleng pagsipa ng presyo ng kuryente dahil sa nagpapatuloy na oil crisis bunsod ng giyera sa Middle East.

Ayon sa electric company, magkakaroon ng bawas na P0.0151 kada kilowatt hour (kWh) ngayong buwan kaya magiging P14.3345 na lamang ang overall rate mula sa dating P14.3496 per kWh noong Abril.

Dahil dito, tinatayang makakatipid ng humigit-kumulang na P3 ang mga kabahayang kumokonsumo ng 200 kWh kada buwan.

Ipinaliwanag ng kumpanya na ang bahagyang pagbaba ng singil ay dahil sa mas mataas na refund rate, pagpapatupad ng value-added tax exemption sa indigenous natural gas, pansamantalang pagsuspinde ng green energy auction allowance, at mas mababang transmission charges.

“Despite initial indications of an increase, Meralco power rates this May had a modest reduction. This was achieved through the proactive efforts led by the Energy Regulatory Commission to cushion the impact of potentially high rates as a result of the geopolitical tensions that ultimately affect energy prices,” sey ni Meralco vice president at head of corporate communications na si Joe Zaldarriaga, na iniulat ng INQUIRER.

Dagdag niya, “While our customers stand to benefit from relatively stable rates this May, we would like to advise our customers that the bills that they will receive may still go up depending on their actual consumption, which usually increases during the summer months.”

Samantala, sinabi rin ng Meralco na tumaas ang generation charge ngayong buwan sa P8.7942 per kWh mula sa dating P8.3864 per kWh.

Naitala rin umano ang malaking pagtaas sa singil mula sa Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, partikular sa line rental component o system loss charge para sa transmission system.

Para mabawasan ang epekto nito sa consumers, pinayagan ng mga regulator ang Meralco na ipatupad ang line rental caps sa ilalim ng kanilang power supply agreements habang sasagutin naman ng generation companies ang anumang sosobra rito.

Sa kabila nito, nanatiling hindi nagbabago ang distribution charge ng kumpanya simula pa noong Agosto 2022.

“While overall electricity rates have gone down, the dry season is typically marked by higher consumption, especially from cooling appliances, which can still drive bills upward. By being more mindful of their power consumption and observing energy efficiency, customers can take better control of their electricity bills,” paalala ni Zaldarriaga.

Sa kasalukuyan, mahigit 8.2 milyong consumers sa Metro Manila at mga karatig-probinsya ang pinaglilingkuran ng Meralco.
