MATAPANG na binarag ni Miss Earth Philippines 2025 Joy Barcoma si Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia.
Ito’y kaugnay sa naging pahayag ni Garcia na kasalanan daw ng mga Pilipinong botante ang patuloy na paghihirap ng Pilipinas dahil sa maling pagpili ng mga opisyal ng gobyerno.
“Only voters, or those citizens who do not choose the right leaders, can be blamed for the country’s mess. We should always remember this,” ang pahayag ni Garcia sa voters’ education forum na ginanap sa Biliran Province State University sa Naval, Biliran kamakailan.
“We should not elect leaders based on social media, television, radio and newspapers. We should use our heart and our conscience in voting, especially for the first-time voters,” aniya pa.
Mariin naman itong kinontra ni Joy at sinabing ang dapat daw na palitan o amiyendahan ay ang mga umiiral na batas para sa kuwalipikasyon ng mga kumakandidato.
Naglabas ng saloobin ang beauty queen hinggil dito sa pamamagitan ng kanyang Facebook page.
“How about change in candidates’ qualifications para kahit sinong piliin eh hindi tayo parang circus?” ang simulang pahayag ni Joy.
Pagpapatuloy niya, “If a candidate is involved in any corruption issues, has not served the masses for a certain period of time (community work, not public office), has a criminal record/s, has businesses that can pose as a conflict of interest, and has a family member within the second degree of consanguinity who already holds public office, dapat hindi na po eligible no?”
Ang suggestion pa niya, dapat ding magkaroon ng written examination ang lahat ng mga mambabatas ukol sa Konstitusyon mg bansa, sa iba’t ibang batas at polisiya, at mga programa ng gobyerno.
Mula rito, mas malalaman ng sambayanang Pilipino kung gaano ba kalawak at kakonektado ang isang kandidato sa iba’t ibang isyu at problema ng mga mamamayan.
