Why '18 Again' Is The K-Drama You Shouldn't Skip
Based on the title, 18 Again might throw you off a bit and make you ask yourself “Isn’t it just the Korean version of the Hollywood film, 17 Again, starring Zac Efron?” Well, it is—but this K-drama is more than just a remake.
18 Again stars Lee Do Hyun and Yoon Sang Hyun as Hong Dae Young. The drama starts with Dae Young going through the worst part of his life: He got fired from his decade-long job, received divorce papers from his wife, and he doesn't have a close relationship with his children. As he relives his glory days back when he was still a popular high school student (who was their school’s basketball star scouted by so many universities), he’s brought back to his high school self—except he’s still living in the present.
If you want a K-drama that will move you with its storyline, here are all the reasons why 18 Again is a must-watch:
1. Lee Do Hyun won the Best New Actor trophy at the 57th Baeksang Awards for his role in 18 Again.
You might have seen him in other shows like Hotel De Luna, where he played IU’s love interest from the past. But it’s only now that he has won an award from this prestigious awards show that's the equivalent of the Oscars. In this drama, Lee Do Hyun is able to portray the role of a high school student and a father, and he can make you feel what his character is going through.

2. It will give you all the feels.
Though the story may start with just Lee Do Hyun, it also talks about the stories of all the other characters. This includes the difficulties that a young couple faces, the struggles of a young mom, a son who is scared to be like his father, and a daughter who tries to protect her whole family.18 Again will hit you right in the heart as it speaks to you, no matter what life stage you’re at.
3. It takes a deep dive into society.
In 18 Again, we see both sides of the coin with how teenage pregnancy is heavily looked down on and how it affects one’s career. At the same time, it also shows the importance of family.

4. So many adorable babies = cuteness overload.
If you like The Return of Superman, then this show is definitely for you. As it flashes back to the younger days of Hong Dae Young, we see him interacting with babies! I’ve run out of words with how adorable and heartwarming all the interactions are in this drama. Here’s a sneak peek for you to enjoy:

5. There are a lot of special cameos.
Some K-drama stars can act, while others can sing. And then there are those that can do both! One of them is Hwang In Yeop, whom you might have seen in the webtoon drama, True Beauty. Here, he plays with our hearts again as the bad boy with a soft heart who's out to win the heart of Hong Dae Young's daughter.

We also have Golden Child's Bomin who is known for his deep voice and amazing visuals. In 18 Again, he surprises us with his acting chops! Watch as he makes you swoon beyond his K-pop idol skills.

On top of all of these, the entire production of 18 Again is simply superb. It perfectly blends in the OST and the scenic views of South Korea. Most of all, t's a roller coaster of emotion that will leave you with a heartwarming impact.
You can watch 18 Again on Netflix, iQIYI, and Viu.
