Some time during the start of the year, aside from your resolutions, you've probably made it a goal to give your room a fresh start. If you're looking for room inspo that gives a fun, cool, and colorful vibe, then you'll want to check out this Pinay's ~neotenic~ bedroom and bathroom.
In an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines, 21-year-old Christina Nicole Lazatin and designer and contractor Monica Banks of Style & Build shared how they achieved this gorgeous space makeover every ~cool girl~ out there will love. Keep reading to know more.
What made you decide to do a space makeover?
Nicole: "Quirky and playful designs are really my thing. I was actually inspired by my [work] as a fashion design and merchandise student, and that is why I decided to do a room makeover with the help of the Style & Build team. I think the [overall look] of my room is a reflection of how I also design clothes."
What changes were made to the bedroom and bathroom?
Monica: "On our first meeting with the client, Nicole, she explained to us [that she wanted a neotenic design for her bedroom and bathroom]. We then drafted a 3D drawing to visualize her design ideas, color schemes, and furniture selection."
"[During] the construction phase of the project, we renovated everything except for the original narra flooring. For the bedroom, the walls were repainted from white to lavender. My team and I, along with Nicole, designed the furniture and lighting fixtures (neon signs) then had them custom built. These include the study desk and vanity, shelving, closet, media cabinet, and accent wall. For the bathroom, the existing tiles were replaced based on the new design theme. Custom cabinetries were also installed, as well as lighting and bathroom fixtures."
Take a look at these before and after pics! That glow up tho??
M: "The most challenging part of the project was incorporating the desired theme to the existing room while avoiding major demolitions. [We wanted] to preserve the original structure of the rooms and avoid going over budget. Renovating these rooms was by far one of the most unique and exciting projects my team and I have designed."
Around how much did you spend for this room makeover?
Monica: "The total renovation cost for the bedroom and bathroom was P500,000.
The furniture and light fixtures cost around P150,000. The rest of the budget was for the raw materials like wood for cabinetries, bathroom tiles, bathroom fixtures, accessories, painting work, and labor."
What's your tip for people who also want to do their own room makeover?
Moncia: "Whether you are planning to build a new home or you have a minor renovation in mind, it is always best to consult with a professional. Having the right professionals supervising your project would give you a better translation of your design ideas and/or vision [of] the project, reduce design errors, give creative solutions, and most importantly, save you more money in the long run."
