Nangyari raw ito two years ago nang magkita sila for the first time habang may rehearsal si Maki sa isang studio ng ABS-CBN.
Nilapitan daw niya si Maki at sinabihan niya ito ng, “Thank you.” Nagtatakang sinagot daw siya ng young singer ng, “Sir, bakit po?”
“And I said, ‘Maki, your group, your generation, has taken OPM to a level that we’ve always wished it would reach. So, thank you so much.’ And the guy started weeping in front of me,” pag-alala ni Gary V.
Reaksyon naman ni Maki, “Sir naman dapat kami po ang magpasalamat sa inyo.”
“And I told him, I said, ‘you know, you actually make it not easier but you make it possible for even us, of older generations, to reach younger generations.
“Because there is a surge in people, young generations, wanting to know more about why is OPM now the ones that fill up the charts?” saad ng OPM icon.

Naniniwala siya na dahil sa mga batang OPM artist, ang labanan sa charts ay pumalo na sa 60-40. Sixty percent ang OPM at 40 percent naman ang foreign acts.
Pero ani Gary, “It’s not to say that the foreign acts aren’t good, ha. It’s just that something happened in the past years that has opened up the idea of OPM being something really cool to listen to.
“When the reunions of E-heads happened, I mean, you had, I don’t know how many thousands of people out there. Up to now pinag-uusapan pa rin. And now they have a documentary that’s actually quite good, you know. I actually got to see it.
“So when I look at the artists today, I’m so, so encouraged na siguro ang nasa isip ko lang is sana ganu’n din ang mangyari sa industriya ng pelikula, you know. That people will no longer look at the formula. That’s another thing.
“The formula of you having to be young and good-looking and fair skinned, it’s no longer part of the… it’s part of the formula, but it isn’t the main formula.
“Basta you have a good song and people like it and you’re authentic sa pag-deliver mo ng kanta, that’s it.
“You’ll find your market, you’ll find the community and you’ll build up from there. I’m so encouraged to see that happening with the artists today,” esplika ni Mr. Pure Energy.
Samantala, isa ring baguhan at promising young artist ang magiging special opening act sa “Back at the Museum”, iyan ay walang iba kundi ang anak nina Megastar Sharon Cuneta at Sen. Kiko Pangilinan na si Kakie.
Magaganap ang series of concerts ni Gary tuwing Huwebes at Sabado ngayong October 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 at 31.
Espesyal din ang 2026 run ng “Back at the Museum” dahil isa ito sa highlights ng 40th anniversary ng Manila Genesis Entertainment and Management Inc., ang management team ni Gary, na pinangungunahan ng misis niyang si Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano.
Mula sa direksyon ng anak ni Gary na si Paolo Valenciano with Mon Faustino as musical director, ang “Back at the Museum” ay para sa benefit ng Shining Light Foundation.
