Fans Have The Same Complaint About Netflix's 'Love Hard'
Netflix's new Christmas film Love Hard dropped on the streaming platform on November 5, featuring a 10/10 cast lineup including The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev.
But, while the film has got us firmly in the Christmas mood, fans have been sharing the same complaint about the movie, and they're not happy with a pretty major plot point.
Warning: spoilers ahead.
Love Hard centers around journalist Natalie (Nina Dobrev), who's had a series of bad luck with dating and writes a column about her nightmare experiences.
After matching with Josh on a dating app, she decides to fly all the way across the US to surprise him for Christmas (despite having never met IRL)—only to realize she's been catfished and that the real Josh (Jimmy O. Yang) had used pictures of a totally different person (his schoolmate Tag, played by Darren Barnet).
Inevitably, as this is a festive rom-com, after all, Natalie and Josh still end up falling for each other despite the catfishing, and viewers reckon the plot sends out totally the wrong message.
One Twitter user wrote that the film was "really justifying catfish," while another added, "Okay, this movie seems to be going in the direction of her ending up with her catfish....which is pretty stupid and an awful lesson."
Meanwhile, another viewer shared their thoughts on the message the film sends about catfishing, writing, "Catfishes always are intentional. #LoveHard. This movie gone be strange if she end up with him period. Bc he doesn't have a sense of what's right lol starting at the beginning [sic]."

On a lighter note, a fourth also pointed out that the film appears to have taken nothing from the years of stories that have been shared about catfishes, writing, "Catfish: The TV Show has been on the air for NINE YEARS and Netflix is releasing a movie where the heroin flies across the country to meet someone she met on a dating app without video chatting?" alongside a GIF which reads "Is nothing sacred?"

Still, if festive vibes are what you're after, there are plenty to go around.
