Once upon a time, your ultimate oppa or queen had a totally different dream before they became a celebrity. Growing up, they were eyeing a certain career path but since they were ~born to be stars,~ these Korean celebs eventually found themselves in the entertainment industry. Can you imagine your favorite actor as a doctor, police officer, or athlete? Check out who they are in our list below!
Korean Actors And Their Childhood Dreams
1. Song Joong Ki
We all know Song Joong Ki is good at everything—from being a model student to acting in front of a green screen—and that includes being an ace in sports! As a child, Joong Ki wished to become a short-track speed skater. He was so good at it that he even represented his hometown in various skating competitions. But his dream was cut short when he had an ankle injury in high school, and so he focused on his studies instead.
2. Jun Ji Hyun
Jun Ji Hyun wanted to travel the world as a flight attendant when she was young. Due to a terrible flight experience, she eventually gave up on this dream. When she turned 16 years old, she was introduced to the modeling industry by her sunbae (female senior) and the rest, as they say, is history.
3. Song Kang
Nevertheless star Song Kang had two dreams growing up: He wanted to become an architect or furniture designer. Song Kang explained why his goal changed in a Cosmopolitan Korea interview: "I saw cool pictures and thought I wanted to do it, but it wasn’t easy. I had no idea where I needed to start." :(
4. Jung Hae In
In 2019, Jung Hae In was a special guest in the variety show Funding Together where he talked about his career. According to him, he initially prepared to study biotechnology because he plans to work in that department as soon as he graduates. However, he applied as a Broadcasting Entertainment major in a university, and kept this a secret from his parents. Hae In was later on scouted by an agency while he was still a student.
5. Lee Bo Young
Being a news presenter is Lee Bo Young's number one childhood dream. She was close to achieving this goal when she became a finalist in MBC (one of the major broadcasting networks in South Korea)'s annual recruitment, but she wasn't able to make it. That's the time when Bo Young started thinking about another entertainment career, and she later on debuted as a commercial model.
6. Lee Min Ho
Aside from his talent in acting, Lee Min Ho is also known for his soccer skills equivalent to a national player. He has always wanted to become a soccer player as a child, and so trained for four years. But things didn't turn out as planned when Min Ho was seriously injured. "As a kid, I wanted to be a soccer player. However, I suffered an injury when I was in grade 5, so I forgot about becoming an athlete. When I turned 18, I changed my mind and wanted to be an actor,” he said in an interview.
7. Song Hye Kyo
Like Lee Min Ho, Hallyu queen Song Hye Kyo is also into sports. Her childhood dream was to become an athlete, and she received training in professional figure skating in elementary school. In 1996, the young Hye Kyo decided to enter a modeling contest and won, and soon found herself acting in K-dramas.
8. Kim Seon Ho
How does Dr. Kim Seon Ho sound to you? For no specific reason, our ~good boy~ Seon Ho originally wanted to become a doctor and he revealed this in an episode of 2 Days & 1 Night (where he also showed his adorable childhood pics). He put this medical dream aside and pursued the entertainment industry, both as a theater and TV actor. Looking forward to a doctor role for you in the *future,* Seon Ho!
9. Park Bo Gum
Did you know Park Bo Gum *tried* auditioning for the big three, aka SM, JYP, and YG Entertainment? He wanted to be a singer-songwriter and in hopes of becoming one, he sent a video of himself singing and playing the piano (he learned this when he was six years old) to a string of agencies. Despite shifting into a different career, Bogummy continues to sing and play the piano in TV shows.
10. Park Shin Hye
Park Shin Hye began her career as a child actress in 2003. Many would think this is her ultimate dream, but she revealed in an ep of Knowing Brothers that she originally wanted to become a police officer. The reason behind this was when their house was robbed and the thief stole around P34,000 from her mom's wallet. Shin Hye innocently thought she can buy a lot of jellies with that amount, and so she wished to turn into a police officer someday.
