Not Gonna Lie, 'A Tale Of Two Sisters' Is Now My Favorite Psychological Horror Film

I really don't know why it took me this long to discover the 2003 film A Tale Of Two Sisters. But when this psychological horror movie dropped on Netflix, I immediately scheduled a weekend movie date with my sister. If you're looking for a sign to watch this classic, THIS IS IT. Not only is A Tale Of Two Sisters scary, it's also surprisingly heartbreaking! 

So, what's the story of A Tale Of Two Sisters? 

After their mother's death, sisters Soo Mi and Soo Youn return to their childhood home, where they are welcomed by their *evil* stepmother. As the days pass, eerie things start happening inside the house.

Who's in the cast? 

The movie stars Im Soo Jung and Moon Geun Yeong as sisters Soo Mi and Soo Yeon, Yum Jung Ah as their stepmother, and Kim Kap Soo as their dad. If you wanna know what the cast of the film is up to these days, click here. 

Why should you watch (or rewatch) it? 

Unlike recent horror films, this one isn't all jump scares and over-the-top sound effects. A Tale Of Two Sisters presents its audience with maaany questions at the beginning, which are then slowly answered throughout the story. Why is Soo Yeon so scared of their stepmother? Are there really ghosts haunting the house? Why is Soo Mi so angry at their father? Sure, the movie might seem confusing at first, but trust me, it will all make sense eventually. 

The film's whole cast deserves a round of applause, but Im Soo Jung's performance during Soo Mi's most intense moments deserves a standing ovation. The way her hands shook as she tried to open that bloody bag, the way she reacted when her father tried to talk some sense into her...I was just speechless. I would also like to give a special shoutout to Yum Jung Ah, who played the stepmother. I became an even bigger fan after finding out she was also in Sky Castle! BRILLIANT.

They weren't kidding when they said this movie has the BEST PLOT TWIST ever. Hearing Soo Mi's dad tell her Soo Yeon is dead, and then finding out everything that's been happening only exists in Soo Mi's mind, was so amazing because it was totally unexpected. This is one of those movies you have to watch multiple times just to catch those little nuances and symbols you missed before. With that said, BRB, I'm going to watch A Tale Of Two Sisters for the second time!
