Miss Universe 2014 Philippine representative MJ Lastimosa is currently in Hollywood, Florida supporting Miss Universe 2020 hopeful Rabiya Mateo, having attended the Miss Universe preliminaries for the swimsuit and evening gown competition.

On social media, a video clip of the preliminaries surfaced where MJ could be heard making comments as Miss Thailand Amanda Obdan walked down the runway.
In the first clip, MJ could be heard saying, “Ay, Catriona,” referencing Miss Universe 2019 Catriona Gray.

In another clip, MJ commented, “Ginaya niya si Catriona maglakad. Ganyan si Catriona, eh.”

While netizens warned MJ that she might get bashed for her comments, MJ said that it’s normal to study past queens like Catriona.

Issuing a statement on Twitter, MJ said, “[To be honest], when I said very Cat? It’s because that’s what I saw, I watched Cat live and it really reminded me of her. Now, is it good or bad? No. Beauty queens really do have a peg once they start training for pageants, inspiration or pattern na inaaral, that’s common.”
