In just a week, we will get to witness the awarding ceremony of the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, aka the Oscars of South Korea. Hallyu fans are *super* excited for this event as it recognizes the top Korean actors, directors, screenwriters, K-dramas, movies, and variety shows in the industry.

To give you a brief background, the Baeksang Arts Awards is a distinguished ceremony hosted by TV network JTBC and newspaper Ilgan Sports. It's held every second quarter of the year and for 2021, the event will be broadcasted on May 13 via JTBC. Similar to last year, there will be no audience participating in the venue this time.

For K-dramas, the Baeksang Arts Awards has two categories: The Best Drama award and the Grand Prize, which can also be given to an actor, director, screenwriter, or variety show. How do they select the best of the best, you ask? According to The Korea Times, there's a "rigorous process" that happens before a winner is chosen. The nominees and nominated shows are presented to a diverse group of critics to allow a broader viewpoint.
