This Is How Seo Ye Ji's Philippine Fan Club Celebrated Her Birthday This Year

Korean culture fans are known to go all out for their fave K-drama actor's or K-pop idol's birthdays—they would hold gatherings called cup sleeve events and would even sometimes rent an entire venue to celebrate with their fellow fans. They would also put up huge billboards in various places to show the world how much they love their bias. Some would also partner with charities and have special projects. One of them is Seo Ye Ji Philippines First Fanbase.

The fan club started with their Facebook page in July 2020 and they eventually created a Twitter and Instagram account two months after. As of present, they have more than 5,000 followers combined on social media. Called PH Yeyes, Seo Ye Ji Philippines First Fanbase has nine admins and 63 core members not only from the Philippines but also abroad. They give timely updates via SNS, organize events, and spread the love for It's Okay To Not Be Okay star Seo Ye Ji on other platforms. According to them, they "envision creating fan projects which will benefit our actress as her support system here in our country but also to help our countrymen who need help."

In an interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines, Maria, an admin of Seo Ye Ji Philippines First Fanbase shared how they celebrated the actress' birthday this year and why they love her so much.

What are your fan projects for Ye Ji's birthday?

Based on the theme of our tagline, "Because you deserve the world", we prepared a country-wide celebration for Ye Ji's birthday. This includes the billboard ads we placed in the MOA Globe Maze and Maax Eye, which was rescheduled to a different date to promote her new film, Recalled.  We are co-presenters for the ad placements together with Team SYJ0406, and the billboards we booked were set along Galleria Corporate Center and EDSA Guadalupe. We also placed an ad in Escario Central Hotel and Mall in Cebu City and in NCCC Mall Davao. From these ads, we can reach a lot of PH Yeyes in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

For our other birthday fan projects, we staged three cup sleeve events in collaboration with Kombi Coffee in Laguna. This mobile cafe is unique as it gives off a vintage feel and is a camper van at the same time. We also held the same event in Cupz of J Cafe and Grind Coffee Bar in Davao.

For our presents to Ye Ji, we sent a keepsake to her agency, GOLDMEDALIST Co., in Seoul, South Korea. It contains our birthday messages, selcas (selfies), and event photos that were collated in a photo diary. We gave her Filipino-inspired gifts that represent the Pinoy ingenuity, such as an eco-friendly bamboo tumbler set and a souvenir jeepney. For Ye Ji's fans who follow our SNS pages and shared our posts during her birthday, we organized a raffle draw.

Please tell us more about your charity project and why you chose the Philippine Eagle Foundation specifically.

Seo Ye Ji is known as an animal lover. In fact, during her previous birthday, she went to an animal shelter and helped to feed dogs and clean cages. With this, we wanted to have a fund drive under her name with our national bird, the Philippine Eagle. We are one with the Philippine Eagle Foundation in the conservation and protection of the PH eagles and the other animals living in the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City. Our donation drive started last March 12 and ended on her birthday, April 6.

What do you love most about Ye Ji?

Most of us became fans of Ye Ji when It's Okay To Not Be Okay was aired last year. For us, she is one beautiful and great actress. We were all fascinated by her breakthrough portrayal of Ko Mun Young but after watching her in the drama, we realized that she's also a down-to-earth person who truly cares for her fans.
