Paulo Avelino Defends Jake Cuenca After Controversial Police Car Chase
Over the weekend, news broke out that Jake Cuenca got arrested after his SUV allegedly hit a police car. According to the police, a car chase ensued when the SUV did not stop, ending in the vicinity of Shaw Boulevard in Pasig City. A delivery rider, who is now in stable condition, got hit by a stray bullet when the police fired at Jake's car.
ABS-CBN reports that Jake's father says he is innocent and that he didn't stop because the police, who were conducting a buy-bust operation, were wearing civilian clothes at that time.
Jake's friend Paulo Avelino recently took to Twitter to defend him. Retweeting a news report about the incident, Paulo wrote: "I wouldn't stop for anyone shooting my vehicle wearing civilian clothes. Pass through a checkpoint? Hinarang ba? If someone was shooting me it's either I shoot back or run for my life. Wrong place wrong time."
According to Paulo, Jake was on his way to his house because he had just recovered from COVID-19. He wrote: "Same thing I would do for someone I love. If you get COVID then F it. I wouldn't care if I get it too. I'm taking care of you whether I get it or not. If I die due to COVID, I'll be happy I did it for someone I love."
Paulo added that Jake's car had no dents and encouraged everyone to get their facts straight.
GMA News reports that the four policemen who shot at Jake's car are under "restrictive custody." As of this writing, Jake has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
