Vice Ganda Regrets Not Being Able To Finish College: 'That is the one thing I wasn't able to give my parents'
You guys, Vice Ganda is here to remind everyone that education is important! In an interview with Summit Media journalists, Cosmo asked Vice what life advice he would give his early twenties self if he could *go back in time*, and his answer is super-inspiring.
The comedian shares that he really enjoyed his youth, but that he would want to change one thing: "Kung babalikan ko siya, ang sasabihin ko sa lang sa kanya is to prioritize my education. Because at that time, I really enjoyed my life fully, my discovery and my realizations about my gender identity, my sexuality. When I discovered that, inenjoy ko lahat e. Yung full potential ko as a gay person inenjoy ko nang bongga. It resulted na napabayaan ko yung studies ko. I wasn't able to graduate Political Science."
Vice used to study at the Far Eastern University in Manila. During a 2019 episode of It's Showtime, a previous classmate revealed that Vice would often be absent from class! Vice said that was the time he started joining Miss Gay competitions.
Vice says he regrets not graduating because his mom worked so hard to send him and his four siblings to school. All of them finished college, except for him. "That is the one thing I wasn't able to give my parents, that gift of the diploma...Kaya bumabawi ako sa ibang paraan ngayon."
Life advice from Vice Ganda
"So kung babalik ako, ang sasabihin ko [sa sarili ko] at sa mga may privilege na makapag-aral ngayon, don't waste that privilege," Vice tells us. "Because a lot of people are deprived, a lot of people are trying so hard just to get that chance to have [an] education. So don't waste it, dahil napakahalaga. Especially now na nage-evolve ang mundo, but still, education is that major thing na kailangan hindi mawala. Ano mang klaseng evolution magkaroon sa buong mundo, yung education, constant siya e. Kaya dapat 'di natin sayangin yung chance natin to go to school and finish our education."

On It's Showtime, Vice, ever the comedian, also talked about the time he went to a studio to have his photo taken. He then placed it next to his siblings' college graduation photos at their house. "Tinanggal ng kapatid ko, si Babot. Sabi niya, 'Wala kang karapatang maglagay ng larawan na yan hangga't di ka nakakatapos ng pag-aaral.' Naiyak ako talaga! Noong sinabi niya sa akin 'yon, tignan mo ang nangyari, hindi pa rin ako nakatapos ng pag-aaral!"
Vica Ganda recently staged a virtual concert entitled Gandemic.
