My Best Basics: The Fashion Essentials I Swear By For My Rectangle Body Shape

Like most people, I learned a lot about myself while in quarantine. Staying at home gave me the opportunity to truly work on and get to know myself better. And I know this may sound weird, but one of the main things I mastered during this peculiar time of our lives is my personal style. I bought new clothes even if I didn’t have anywhere to go.

At first, I did it just so I’d have new pieces to take my at-home selfies with but eventually, I realized that it was my way of reinventing my style. I also started to take note of what worked for me, what didn’t, what I loved, and what I wasn’t exactly a fan of.

When it comes to my style, I learned that comfort sits at the top of my list—I need to be able to move around comfortably in the piece before I purchase it. Aside from this, I also recently realized that I have a rectangular body type, where I have little to no curves so I’ve been finding ways to add some dimension. I’ve been doing so by accentuating my broad shoulders through halter necklines as well as by cinching my waist through high-waisted pieces.

Halter tops

If there’s one thing that’s consistent in my style throughout the years, it would absolutely be my love for halter necklines. I opt for this type because of my broad shoulders and I would like to showcase this by drawing attention to the upper half of my torso.

Highwaisted denim

I love high-waisted denim for two main reasons: first, it helps support my protruding puson, and second, it elongates my legs. The style is very flattering and comfy at the same time!

Baguette bag

Baguette bags are very uso right now—and for all the right reasons! They’re small enough not to weigh me down but also big enough to carry all my essentials. I use this one white bag for all of my outfits and bagay siya sa lahat!

Gold accessories

Gold has always been my go-to finish for accessories because it compliments my morena skin tone. My warm skin looks so much brighter when I put on gold accessories!

Cardigan tops

Here’s another recent addiction: cardigan tops. I’ve been seeing it all over Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok, and TBH, no complaints from my end! They’re super easy to throw on and very comfy.

Triangle bikini

This is my favorite bikini style because it’s the most versatile one of all! You can easily change up how it looks by playing with the straps plus it’s very flattering for my broad shoulders.

Co-ord sets

You see, I’m very tamad when it comes to my style. Though I want to look like I actually thought about my outfit, the thing is I just want to *appear* that way without putting in the actual work, LOL. This is why I’m a big fan of co-ord sets because it does the thinking for you—you just have to throw the pieces on and you immediately look put-together!

White sneakers

Truly a closet staple! I have several pairs of white sneakers that I love (and TBH, abuse!) so much. They go with any outfit and are again, super comfy.
