OMG, This Cafe In Pampanga Is Inspired By Your Favorite Thai BL Series
If you're ever in Pampanga and feel like treating yourself to some coffee, we reco that you visit Angeles City. The area has a lot of pretty, minimalist cafes you'll love. Influencers like Toni Sia and Rhea Bue even shared the *cool* spots that they've been to in their vlogs! And if you happen to be a fan of Thai boys' love dramas, then you should definitely check out Siam Station. It's a themed cafe that offers Thailand's famous street drinks and local products. The best part? It's full of merchandise from your favorite Thai BL series! In an email interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines, we got to know more about owner Han Nicdao, and the story behind the *unique* cafe.
How did the idea of Siam Station come about?
"In December 2015, I first traveled to Thailand to watch the first fan meeting of the K-pop band named DAY6. There, I met a Filipino teacher who's also a big fan of DAY6, and she introduced me to Thai culture. We went to Bangkok, Thailand and the first place we visited was the Siam area. It immediately became my favorite place to hang out. I've become friends with a lot of good-hearted Thais and it makes me love the country even more.
Before the pandemic, I would visit Thailand almost three to five times a year. It made me appreciate their culture so much. During ECQ, I thought about the concept of 'Siam Station.' For the longest time, I've been craving Thai street food and drinks. Plus, I miss spending time with my friends from Thailand and watching their local artists. All these thoughts and ~feelings~ came together into a business idea and that's basically how Siam Station started.
I had a lot of limited edition (and official!) boys' love memorabilia and so did my friend, Lionel, who is also a fan of Thai series. Together, we used the merch to decorate the cafe that I dreamed of. The interior design and woodcraft were care of my brother, Ian and my father, Dongnic."
What kind of drinks do you offer in your cafe?
"In terms of the menu, I'm proud to say that all the recipes and ingredients originated from Thailand. My friend, Sutheera, and her mom helped me turn the place into a cafe that'll make you feel like you're actually in the Siam area. They're also the ones who check in on us regularly so we'll always be consistent in the drinks that we serve."
The first product that we created was the Nom Yen, or better known as Pink Milk. I'm *obsessed* with this drink. Whenever I'm in Thailand, I could drink at least three cups of Nom Yen every day! I love it so much, I can still remember its taste even if I'm here in the Philippines. Fun fact: During the test run of the product, we were able to perfect it in just one trial!
[So far], the common reactions that we received from people were, 'Everything is just unique' and 'The drinks are the type that [you'll crave] every day.' [In the future], my goal is to have a lot of branches where we can cater to all the Thai series fans in the Philippines."
Siam Station is located on the second floor of Lorenza Roman Building, 769 Pandan-Magalang Road, Sto. Cristo Angeles City. They're open from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. To know more about the cafe, visit their Facebook and Instagram.
