Liza Soberano Clarifies Her 'You don't need to say sorry' Comment About Angel Locsin

Over the weekend, some netizens accused actress Liza Soberano of being "insensitive" after she made a comment on Angel Locsin's apology post. On April 23, Angel apologized to the family of the senior citizen who died while waiting in line. She took full responsibility for the incident. Liza commented on Angel's post: "You don't need to say sorry ate dahil hindi mo naman ginusto ang mga nangyari. We will be praying for tatay's soul, for his family who is mourning, and for your good health and peace of mind." Commenters lectured Liza on empathy, while some made personal attacks unrelated to the issue. 

In a series of tweets on April 24, Liza clarified: "Many people misunderstood my comment. I meant don't say sorry to the people demanding a sorry from her that have nothing to do with the situation. Of course it's only right and natural for Ate Angel to be sorry about the life that was lost." 

She adds: "It's just unfair to me that her intentions were twisted and she's being blamed for the death that she never intended to happen. Sorry if the family affected by this for offended by my comment but this was not for you but the people blaming her."

Liza's fans rallied to support her on Twitter, saying things like, "You are a kind-hearted person, don't mind the haters! You are loved by many good people," and "As what you said to your Ate Angel, you need not say you're sorry. Those who deliberately misunderstood your words just want to put a different meaning to your words. We know who they are."

Liza, who will be voicing the main character in Netflix's Trese series, has been very vocal about different issues on social media. She is currently an ambassador of Save The Children PH, an organization committed to helping kids. 

In March, she asked some *genuine* questions regarding the COVID-19 situation in the country through a series of tweets, writing: "My heart bleeds for all the people who cannot afford not to go out and work. They literally have to choose between dying of starvation or dying of COVID. Is our country really this poor to [not] be able to provide stimulus?? Genuine question lang po."
