I Tried The ~Best~ Home Photoshoot Ideas From TikTok So You Don't Have To

I think we can all agree that no two Tiktok "For You" pages are alike. That said, mine is full of K-pop crack videos, astrology roasts, and #Dracotok—just to name a few! Normally, as I descend down my Tiktok rabbit hole, you’ll find me lying in bed with a straight face. But I decided to ditch the safe confines of my bed to try something different.

Being cooped-up indoors since 2020 has drained a lot of my creative juice. And TBH, I’ve been struggling to come up with fresh photo ideas to post on Instagram. So when I came across this article listing at-home photoshoot TikTok hacks, I knew I had to try some for myself. After reading the article—and scrolling through the #homephotoshootidea hashtag myself—I enlisted the help of my in-house photographer (*cough* my brother *cough*) to help me nail my pictures!

Here's how it went down:

Trying Out The Best Home Photoshoot Ideas From TikTok

1. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: Mirror Play

Difficulty Level: 6/10

Using a mirror like this for the first time and finding the right angle where my double chins didn’t show was definitely a challenge. Plus, gathering props to complete the aesthetic can be time-consuming. I’d recommend this hack if you have spare time, but remember, patience is a virtue—and the final photos were worth it!

2. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: Fandom-Inspired

Difficulty Level: 7/10

A spin-off from the first idea—who says you can’t use clothes as a backdrop?! The original Tiktok had a soft look, so I went in the opposite direction. Dark and mysterious—this is essentially synonymous with the Slytherin house, so you bet I used this chance to do a Harry Potter-inspired shoot!

Using a smaller mirror made it harder to find the right angle for me and the camera. Otherwise, I’d say ~*mischief managed*~!

3. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: Flower Power

Difficulty Level: 3/10

It’s official: Mirrors are SUPER helpful. So for my final mirror hack, I’ll be following Angel Andrade's video! This hack can be done alone, but since I had my brother, I put an extra point for his effort to hold up the mirror (#bless). This hack is perfect for all of your ~*summer*~ posts, don't you think?

4 & 5. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: Two in One

Difficulty Level: 5/10

This idea is actually two Tiktok hacks I decided to use together! One video was about utilizing a white sheet for your photos and the other one was how the ~golden hour~ is the best for taking photos.

I raised the difficulty level because you do need to do more set-up (aka clothing rack + clips to hang and secure the cloth). But overall, I ~adore~ how this photo turned out!

6. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: Shy Girl

Difficulty Level: 1/10

Take a cue from this Tiktok video and you’ll be able to nail your home photoshoot. Even if you're a ~shy girl~, you can't go wrong with such easy and versatile poses!

7. Tiktok Home Photoshoot Idea: The ~Dream~ Girl

Difficulty Level: 1/10

Okay, technically this photo wasn’t done "at home," but I couldn't resist trying this out when there’s an empty field near me!

But field aside, you can absolutely do this at home. Find a nice spot in the house, follow these poses, and even Taylor Swift will be envying your dreamy photos. Folklore who?

Would I try these hacks again?

Trying to keep my motivation afloat during the pandemic is no easy feat. And sure it's expected of an unexpected situation, but it still doesn't feel good. I was worried that trying these hacks would be a bit too difficult for my unmotivated self, but that's where asking for help comes in (big thanks to my brother). And once I did it, ya girl felt GREAT! I felt accomplished and productive—things I haven't felt in a hot minute.

And if you can't ask anyone for help, don't stress. These hacks are beginner-friendly! Just take your time and have fun. After all, you're doing this for you and you deserve to take this time to acknowledge the beautiful, powerful person you are! We got this. ~Fighting~!
