'Heartless And Cruel': Star Magic's Statement Against The Bashing Of Celebrities' Children

ABS-CBN's talent agency Star Magic has released an official statement regarding the bashing and threats their artists' young children have been receiving on social media: "These posts are not only responsible and unnecessary, but they are also downright heartless and cruel." The statement said they will not hesitate to take legal action against the persons behind these social media posts, and that the culprits may be "liable for violating the law against child abuse (Republic Act 7610) and existing libel laws."

The statement did not mention specific names, but earlier this month, bashers targeted the five-month-old son of Markus Paterson and Janella Salvador. Facebook users criticized the baby's appearance and the couple did not hesitate to call them out on social media. The persons involved later publicly apologized for their rude comments, to which Markus responded: "The sad thing is, these people will cry about it claiming they're sorry. If you weren't caught, would you have been sorry?"

Janella also reposted Star Magic's statement today on IG Stories, writing: "For you sickos out there."

A few days ago, Carlo Aquino and Trina Candaza shared photos of messages they received from a troll who went as far as making death threats. Carlo reposted Star Magic's statement today, adding: "Bakit pati mga sanggol o batang walang kalaban-laban? Wala ba kayong mga anak? Pamangkin? Huwag naman sana ganoon kawalang-puso. Ingatan natin ang mundong kakalakihan ng mga batang ito. Huwag natin hayaang maging marahas. Hindi lang para sa anak ng artista, pero para sa lahat.

Star Magic has noticeably been more vocal on social media regarding the welfare of their artists. In January 2021, they also released a statement condemning the manipulation of Maris Racal and Sue Ramirez's fake nude photos, saying: "ABS-CBN and Star Magic condemn the illegally manipulating photos of celebrities or anyone, which is a form of gender-based online sexual harassment under RA 11313 or The Safe Spaces Act."
