Arci Munoz On Her Real ~Status~ With JM De Guzman: 'Best friends forever'

So last week, Arci Munoz and JM De Guzman had us totally fooled when they pranked us into thinking they were now in a ~romantic relationship~. ICYDK, Arci released a teaser of her Boracay vlog where JM was seen giving her a bouquet of flowers and asking her if he could court her! But when the full vlog dropped, it was just a lighthearted joke between the two besties. The flowers, btw, were actually for Arci's brother Manolet who proposed to his gf Kris during the trip. Cute!

Arci clarifies her viral Boracay vlog with JM

In a recent press con for her series Walang Hanggang Paalam, Arci explained that the Boracay trip was a family affair—yes, including JM, her college bestie—and that the whole flower thing JM did was just a spontaneous trick!

"Me and JM are really close since college days. The family went to Boracay two weeks ago. Nandoon din si Sir Deo (Endrinal, the head of Dreamscape)," she said. "Nagkita-kita kami. My brother proposed to his girlfriend. Ewan ko ba dun kay JM. Suggestion niya ipasok yung ring and flowers in the middle of the sunset scenery. Inabot niya lang yung flowers sa akin."

"It's about the editing lang,” she added, clarifying the teaser. "I was not really going to put it in the vlog pero nagkatuwaan lang. We are still best friends. Best friends forever." Yup, and there you have it, the status of their relationship: best friends.

Arci and JM's friendship since their college days in UP Diliman

As Arci said, the two actors go way back to their college days as theatre students in UP Diliman—in fact, Arci did have a crush on JM but assumed he was gay, LOL! In an interview in 2020, she explained the reason why they never entered a relationship despite being paired as romantic partners on screen: "Kasi best friend ko eh. Parang ang hirap kung pupunta kami sa ganung direksyon, ang hirap na ibalik na ang ganitong klaseng relationship namin as friends. Best friend ko ito eh," she said. "Sobrang comfortable kay JM. Parang wala akong maitatago sa kanya. Kapag masama ang loob ko, siguro siya ang unang taong tatawagan ko bukod sa pamilya ko."

Arci went on to gush over JM by saying how much he means to her: "Hindi niya nakalimutan yung times nung college days namin na halos kami lang din parati ang magksama. Thankful ako sa existence niya kasi napapagaan niya yung buhay ko."

The two besties continue to thrive in their friendship and even took up a new activity during the pandemic: both of them trained as reservists for the Philippine Air Force. Yup, we totally love their friendship!
