7 Of The *Best* K-Dramas To Recommend To Your Friends Who Aren't Fans Yet

We all have that one friend who we can’t seem to get into watching K-dramas, no matter how hard we try to convince them. Okay, I’ll admit it: I was one of *those* people, but I can vividly remember a summer in college when my best friend successfully pursuaded me to finally watch my first K-drama. I binge-watched Descendants of the Sun in two days! Since then, I’ve watched my fair share of Korean dramas and have picked out the ones that will encourage ~*non-believers*~ to give them a chance.

Here are seven K-dramas on Netflix and Viu that will transform your friends into diehard fans:

1. Reply 1988 (2015)

Who’s in it: Lee Hyeri, Park Bo Gum, Ryu Jun Yeol, Go Kyung Pyo, Lee Dong Hwi

Where you can watch it: Netflix and Viu

Why you should watch it: It’s a nostalgic tale of five families living on the same street in a neighborhood called Ssangmundong. Reply 1988 has comedy, romance, and will surely warm your heart—what more can you ask for?

Who’s in it: IU, Lee Joon Gi, Kang Ha Neul, Nam Joo Hyuk, Ji Soo, Kang Han Na, EXO's Baekhyun

Where you can watch itViu

Why you should watch it: This series is perfect for fans of period dramas. It tells the story of a woman from the present (IU) who wakes up in the Goryeo Dynasty. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is guaranteed to give you the kilig (soooo many cute boys!) with a hint of Korean history.

3. While You Were Sleeping (2017)

Who’s in it: Bae Suzy, Lee Jong Suk, Jung Hae In

Where you can watch itNetflix and Viu

Why you should watch it: Are you into thriller dramas? Then you have to check out While You Were Sleeping! More than the cast’s acting chops, the plot itself makes the show worth the watch. One scene that’s forever etched in our minds, tbh, is Jung Hae In showing off his toned abs.

Who’s in it: Jo In Sung, Gong Hyo Jin, EXO's D.O., Lee Sung Kyung, Lee Kwang Soo

Where you can watch it: Netflix and Viu

Why you should watch it: It’s rare for K-dramas to openly talk about mental health and It's Okay, That's Love does so in the most gentle and heartwarming way. Also, get ready for an intense plot twist!

7. 18 Again (2020)

Who’s in it: Kim Ha Neul, Yoon Sang Hyun, Lee Do Hyun, Hwang In Yeop

Where you can watch itNetflix and Viu

Why you should watch it: The Korean remake of Zac Efron’s hit movie is one of the best shows that we have watched recently. It tackles issues that hit close to home, especially if you’re in the midst of a quarter-life crisis. Prepare your tissues because this one is a real tearjerker!
