Pagrampa ng Man of the World 2022 candidates nang nakabahag inireklamo: Nakakabastos nga ba?

Ang tatlo sa mga candidate sa Man of The World 2022

INIREKLAMO ng isang indigenous rights group ang organizers ng Man of the World pageant dahil sa paggamit ng mga ito ng kanilang traditional na kasuotan, ang “bahag.”

Hindi nagustuhan ng nasabing grupo ang maling pagsusuot at pagrampa ng mga contestants sa Man of the World 2022 ng kanilang makasaysayang bahag.

Kalat na kalat ngayon sa social media ang mga litrato ng mga male candidates mula sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng mundo na nakabahag lamang bilang bahagi ng pre-pageant activities na ginaganap ngayon sa Manila.

Sa kanilang official Facebook page, inilahad ng Takder kung bakit nila kinukuwestiyon ang paggamit ng bahag sa nasabing male pageant kasabay ng panawagan na humingi ng paumanhin ang organizers at itama ang kanilang “cultural appropriation.”

Narito ang buong mensahe ng nasabing grupo: “The Man of the World swim wear “Bahag” competition was done in bad taste.

“Though this is not a letter of condemnation, we implore the organizers of the Man of the World pageantry to immerse themselves with the indigenous communities of the Philippines, especially the Cordillera.

“Our mountains have safeguarded our culture for hundreds of years. The Cordilleran people will be more than willing to share these as long as it is done properly and respectfully.

“We should then integrate and learn their ways firsthand. This way, we can understand that cultures older than us should not be used to sexualize or objectify people,.

“When we wear our cultural attires, we wear our identity, our history, and our people – we hope that we can use events such as pageantry to make them understand that the practice of our tradition and culture is not a spectacle that should be reduced for others’ entertainment. We are not commodities but human beings.

“Our indigenous cultural attires represent our rich history and identity. It is worn with pride during wars, weddings, harvests, and other important milestones in our communities.

“The designs are symbols of our struggles and have weaved our way of life,” ang nakasaad pa sa FB account ng Takder.

Samantala, naglabas din ng pahayag ang National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) tungkol sa isyu at sinabing, “Bahag should be accorded the highest respect by wearing them properly and for the purpose they were made.”

Itinanggi rin ng NCIP na may pahintulot ang ahensiya na gamitin ng organizers ang bahag bilang bahagi ng swimwear competition ng pageant.

“While we commend the noble intention of the organizers to showcase the rich culture of the Cordilleras through the wearing of these bahag, we cannot however undermine the indigenous peoples when they cry foul on matters affecting their culture,” sabi pa ng NCIP.
