This Pinay Fangirl Shares How She Became A Proud Multi-Stan Of BTS, BLACKPINK, And ENHYPEN

University student Pauline got caught up in Hallyu in the early 2010s because of Korean dramas. Back then, she'd also casually listen to the popular K-pop groups at that time, like second gen greats SHINee, Girls' Generation, and 2NE1. "Pero hindi ko pa nga nararamdaman na 'Okay, why not try to dive into this so-called K-pop?'" she tells Cosmopolitan.

But everything changed when the pandemic hit in 2020. The once low-key fangirl turned into a full-fledged K-pop stan! Pauline says, "Yung mundo mo ba parang huminto because of this pandemic. You don't know how to survive every single day, kung ano ba gagawin mo sa araw-araw, ano bang klaseng coping mechanism mo during this pandemic." And today, Pauline is a proud multi-stan of three groups: third generation superstars BTS and BLACKPINK, and monster rookies ENHYPEN.

While she does enjoy being a fangirl in the ~now normal~ by documenting her merch unboxings on TikTok and having calls with her co-fangirls over Zoom, there really is no beating physical interactions with the Hallyu community. Pauline shares her most cherished memory from way back when: "Best experience ko siguro before pandemic, nandoon lang kami sa isang gilid tapos sinasayaw-sayaw nila yung 'I Got A Boy,' tapos tsaka yung 'Sorry Sorry,' tsaka yung 'Growl' ng EXO. Yung ganoon, ba? Masaya lang kami na ganoon. Yung lahat kayo sabay-sabay na nagkakaintindihan, na pare-pareho kayo ng gusto, nandoon kayo sa isang lugar."
