Patrick Sugui Addresses Comments That They're *Too Young* To Get Married: 'Dun din naman papunta eh'
ICYMI, Patrick Sugui and Aeriel Garcia, two members of the celebrity barkada Nguya Squad, have been engaged for almost a year now. In their recent guesting on Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos’ Figure It Out podcast, the lovebirds got candid about some details in their relationship, including the moment they knew they were each other's *the one*.
“The first thing na nag-pop sa utak namin ni Khalil kaya namin kayo gusto kausapin talaga, kasi isa kayo sa mga bata na kilala namin na na-engage,” Gabbi tells the couple.
When asked about what made him decide to propose early when most of their peers haven’t decided to go to the next level yet, Patrick explains, “Well, before ko pa ma-meet si A (Aeriel), I was looking for someone to date to marry.
“And then I met her, sobrang saya kasama, di pa kami nag-aaway.”
He also said that the pandemic made him more ~sure~ of his feelings towards Aeriel, debunking the usual notion that couples seemingly fall apart whenever they spend too much time with each other. He shares, “Ang laking factor din nung nagka-lockdown kasi we live together, 'di ba? Some would say na mahirap 'yun, 'yung kayong dalawa lang every day lockdown, hindi kayo pwede lumabas. Kasi sabi nila magkaka-sawaan kayo, mag-a-away kayo, 'yung ganun, pero never namin na-feel 'yun, eh.”
For Patrick, he took that as the sign for him to finally pop the question: "'Yun na 'yung nag-push sakin na okay na, tatanungin ko na, gusto ko na talaga," he explains.
Aeriel, on the other hand, argued that she always knew. “Ako kasi I love you na talaga! Simula bata pa lang talaga ako, love ko na talaga siya,” the 21-year old influencer reveals. (ICYDK, in one of their previous vlogs, Aerial once shared that Patrick was her longtime childhood crush and that she has been an avid follower of the actor since his Pinoy Big Brother days.)
“Yes agad!” she said when Gabbi asked her about the proposal moment.
Asked if they ever felt some sort of fear about marriage, as it’s a significant milestone and a big step in any couple’s life, Patrick answered, “Syempre may konting pressure, but for me kasi, why not get married and figure the rest of the things out after? At least, alam kong may support talaga ako. 'Dun din naman papunta eh.”
He further explains, “Wala na rin naman akong nai-imagine na ibang tao na pakakasalan ko, 'bat ko pa papatagalin?”
When it comes to feeling pressured though, they do admit that they feel a bit anxious about the wedding preparations. But as far as their feelings are concerned, it has always felt easy, says the couple.
Patrick also shared his response to people who've been saying that they’re too young to get married: “Hindi niyo kasi nafi-feel yung nafi-feel ko, so it’s easy to say that. But once you get that feeling na na-feel ko, na-feel niya, no doubt eh. 'Di mo na kukuwestyunin 'yung feeling na 'yun.”
Aerial and Patrick announced their engagement last December and have yet to tie the knot. In the same podcast episode, the two talked more about their current living arrangement and how their Christian faith has changed them.
