Britney Spears' Conservatorship Is Officially *Over*

Incredible news for Britney Spears' fans today: a Los Angeles judge has *officially* terminated her conservatorship. OMG, yes!

For the last 13 years, Britney's finances and medical decisions have been controlled by a conservator—an organization or person designated by a judge to take care of another adult who cannot look after himself. She's been *trapped* in the legal arrangement since 2008, at the age of 27. Britney turns 40 in December 2021. Fans started the #FreeBritney social media movement, which called for Britney to be removed from the legal arrangement.

In June 2021, Britney testified in a conservatorship case, where she basically accused her dad, Jamie Spears, of conservator abuse. The conservatorship encroached on Britney's decisions when it came to her body and her professional life. She would at times be forced to stay in facilities and to take medication against her will.

In a hearing in September, Jamie was relieved of his position looking after Britney's finances and estate, estimated at ~$60 million~.

With the dissolution of her conservatorship, Britney couldn't help but share her joy and her gratitude for the love and support of her fans.

"Good God, I love my fans so much it’s crazy," Britney wrote in an IG post, featuring a video clip of fans rejoicing with the end of her conservatorship. "I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day!!!! Best day ever… Praise the Lord… Can I get an 'Amen'? #FreedBritney"

Britney says she has "a lot of healing to do," and will be taking time to enjoy her new life as a free woman before announcing plans with her career. She's set to marry her boyfriend Sam Asghari after getting engaged in September.

We're so happy for you, Britney!
