Julia Barretto Gushed Over Her Tita Claudine As An Actress: 'Nag-iisa lang siya'

It is a known fact that Claudine Barretto was one of the biggest and most talented actresses in the '90s and '00s. You can even watch most of her greatest films on iWant TFC—from Madrasta to Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita to Anak to Got 2 Believe!

And it's no doubt that the next Barretto to follow in her footsteps is her niece Julia Barretto. You see, Julia grew up visiting the sets and shooting locations of Claudine's shows and movies, and Julia easily fell in love with the industry and the craft as well. In a recent interview with PUSH, Julia was asked if she thinks she got her acting skills from her tita. "Nakuha? Naku siguro wala," she said. "Siguro wala kasi nag-iisa lang siya, e."

Julia then gushed over her Tita Claudine: "Napakahusay niya, and growing up you know I've been always vocal about this, I have always been a fan of her and her work, of her projects and I really looked up to her growing up as an actress."

She also wanted to emphasize their differences as actresses and kept on praising how incomparable her tita is. "Pero again, siguro when it comes to our craft—iba. We're different, because again, iba siya. Iba talaga siyang umarte…iba talaga siya," she said.

Julia continued, "Pero ako naman, I try my best every day and every time I'm given the opportunity. And I always try to be at my best and perform and deliver. I just want everybody around me proud and everybody who trusts me with the projects proud and I think that's always been the goal‚ to help breathe life into the character that I'm given."

Last June, Claudine also spoke to PUSH about Julia and refuted claims about her niece's career going south. "Ako, meron akong sama ng loob kay Julia, everybody knows that but I don't wanna think na bumagsak yung career niya," she said.

Claudine said that although there's stiff competition between Julia and her peers and the negative press she's been receiving recently, she believes Julia has the acting chops to rise above it: "Nega nga ang mga nasusulat para sa pamangkin ko, pero at the end of the day, pamangkin ko pa rin 'yon, e. Hindi ako naniniwala na babagsak (ang career niya)…Kasi sa akin, nangyari na 'yan, ilang beses na, lalo na yung rebellious days ko, pero hindi siya bumagsak. Si Julia, naging nega lang siya, and we just need a real good project for her because alam ko dugong Barretto 'yan. Magaling 'yan. At saka may dugong Dennis Padilla 'yan, magaling din sa comedy."

ICYDK, Claudine and Julia have had an estranged relationship since 2019 when the Barretto family patriarch Miguel Barretto passed away. In October 2019, the Barretto family made headlines when a scuffle broke out between the sisters—and their children—during the wake.
