Selena Gomez Calls Out TV Show Over 'Tasteless Joke' About Her Kidney Transplant

Selena Gomez has responded to a “tasteless” reference to her kidney transplant featured on The Good Fight. The scene in question happens when characters are discussing what subjects should be off-limits to joke about due to “cancel culture,” and “Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant” is suggested.

“I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently,” Selena wrote on Twitter. “I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented, it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.”

She added, “My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU,” and asked people to “please sign up to be an organ donor” if they are able.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Selena’s had to deal with her literal health being a punch line on a television show. Peacock, Universal Television, and executive producers of Saved by the Bell issued an apology on Today after public outrage over a joke they made about Selena in an episode last year:

“We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health,” the statement read. “We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, the Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.”

Ugh. Let’s hope Selena’s message is heard and this doesn’t happen again.
