Ally, 19, is a full-time university student and a lover of all things ~candles~ as well. She started collecting candles in 2018 when her mom brought home one as a wedding souvenir. "It was a candle that was coffee-scented," she tells Cosmopolitan. "It was actually from the store Calm And Cozy. I started searching them on Instagram, messaging them if I could order, and then there, that's when I started collecting candles."
After that first encounter, Ally has now amassed a collection of over 150 candles and has spent around P15,000 on them ("I know, it's big")—but then candles do play an important role for her overall well-being. "I decided to start collecting candles because it really helps with my mental health, especially in this pandemic," she says. "Nasa bahay lang tayo and we don't usually go out. So what I do, I just watch Netflix or do my schoolwork and then pair it up with a candle."
Ally couldn't help but gush over what makes candles so special for her: They ~transport~ to different places and make her *imagine* specific scenarios! "What I find really interesting in candle collecting is that not all candles are the same," she explains. "Because there's a sweet scent type of candle, there are candles that will remind you of traveling, there are candles that will smell like a guy's perfume or a guy's hoodie. So each scent is really unique and it helps me imagine."
