Miss Australia 2020 Is All For Miss Universe Philippines Removing Its Height Requirement

Miss Universe Australia 2020 Maria Thattil just praised the Miss Universe Philippines organization after making changes to its application requirements.

On June 7, Monday, Miss Universe Philippines reiterated its final call for interested applicants to the 2021 Miss Universe Philippines competition, with some adjustments to its criteria.

"No minimum height requirement," one of the photos in the IG post read. Previously, the minimum height requirement was 5'4.

Maria took to Instagram on June 9, Wednesday, to commend Miss Universe Philippines for lifting its height requirement. She called on other pageant organizers to consider making similar changes to remove the barrier caused by beauty standards.

"Woke to the great news that @themissuniverseph removed the height requirement in the @missuniverse competition."

"With the MU organization not imposing a height requirement, I’d love to see other national organizations follow suit. Why? It’s simple."

Maria went on to proudly say that she may not have been among the tallest candidates in Miss Universe 2020, but she did not let this get in the way of her confidence and performance during the pageant. In fact, she even made it to the Top 10.

"Miss Universe is a powerful global ambassador. All the delegates are, too, and have the opportunity to ignite global change for GOOD. Look at me—at 5’3, I did exactly that. And I did it as the shortest candidate in my cohort, one of the shortest in MU’s seven-decade history...and in the top 10."

"Well done @themissuniverseph for challenging exclusive beauty standards. The number of centimeters you stand tall doesn’t dictate your ability to be a leader and change maker. [Fewer] barriers to access for all women—here is to progress."

"If you agree, share with #HeightIsNoBarrier—your voices matter. #MissUniverse #MissUniverseAustralia #Inclusivity"

Maria's post also included words of admiration from her fans, who consider her their inspiration.

"I think one of the reasons why the minimum height was removed is because of you, Miss Maria, because you are one of those who proved that height is not a barrier to compete and reach the finals. I salute you," said one fan, who happened to be Filipino.

"You are such an inspiration to the WORLD. Wow. You didn't win, but you left an impact on the universe that height doesn't define beauty.  Well done, Maria!" said another netizen.

Such an inspiration, Maria!
