Calling All '90s Kids: This Tamagotchi Smartwatch Will Make You Relive Your Childhood
If you grew up in the '90s or early 2000s, you probably owned a Tamagotchi-and when we say owned, we mean loved, cherished, and painstakingly took care of. For those of you unfamiliar, the Tamagotchi is a handheld digital pet that was created by Japanese toy brand Bandai in 1996 and quickly became one of the biggest toy fads of its time. Now, the beloved gadget is a quarter-of-a-century old, its OG audience well into adulthood—and yup, it's still here.
Whether you want to introduce the kids in your life to the joys of playing with a Tamagotchi or you just want to relive your childhood, we've got great news: To celebrate the toy's 25th anniversary, Bandai is releasing the Tamagotchi smartwatch, a modernized version of the classic virtual pet!
Much like the OG Tamagotchi, the smartwatch version of the classic toy sports an egg-like shape. This time, it's equipped with a handy strap that lets you wear it everywhere you go-thereby bringing your pet with you at all times so that it can always get the love and attention it needs. The smartwatch's face still sports the classic three-button design on the bottom, but instead of the colorless, pixelized screen you grew up with, the Tamagotchi smartwatch has a touchscreen LCD that actually lets you stroke your digital pet's head. Plus, it's rechargeable via USB (the original was battery-powered) and can run for up to 30 hours on a full charge. It also has a microphone that lets you talk to your Tamagotchi pet. You'll be hanging out with your virtual furbaby all day and night!
Feast your eyes on the upcoming Tamagotchi smartwatch:
The Tamagotchi Smartwatch will be available in Japan starting November 23 for JPY ¥7,480 (roughly P3,310). We're crossing our fingers that it will be released in the Philippines, too!
