Jake Ejercito Reveals Why He Was *Reluctant* To Join Showbiz

Jake Ejercito is finally starring in his first teleseryeand his very first Kapamilya project at thatMarry Me, Marry You. The 31-year-old star was launched as a Star Magic talent back in June 2020, but because of the pandemic, his work with ABS-CBN had to be put on a momentary pause. But now, he'll be getting his big break and he couldn't be happier about it.

"I'm just really excited because I've been waiting for quite a while, more than a year almost," Jake said in a recent media conference. "So talagang I'm really excited to start acting and go to work and meeting all the people on cam and behind the cam. I've met a couple of Kapamilyas na and feeling ko I belong."

Why Jake was reluctant to join showbiz at first

Acting runs in Jake's blood, with both his parents and several other relatives starting out in the entertainment industry, but he was always so reluctant to join in on the "family business" because of several factors: his being unsure about what he wanted to do and him being a young dad to his daughter Ellie: "My first ever appearance on TV I was still in college and I was based abroad so hindi ko magawa lahat ng offers and I was also very reluctant talaga nung time na 'yon. Hindi ko sure kung anong gusto kong gawin sa buhay and being a young dad din, I prioritized my daughter."

But it was the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Coming Home that convinced Jake that this was the world he needed to be in. Jake played a supporting role in the family drama which was headlined by his half-brother Jinggoy Estrada and Sylvia Sanchez. "By last year when I actually did the movie Coming Home, I realized why not give this a try," he shared. "Why not try it seriously naman. By doing that film, 'yon yung nakapagpa-decide sa akin talaga."

Jake revealed that he was exposed to both the worlds of politics and showbiz growing up, and had set his eyes on being a public servant just like his father, former President Joseph Estrada. But then Jake got "disillusioned" with the system here in the Philippines. Luckily, the appeal of showbiz never left him and went for it when he thought it was the right time: "Yung pagpasok sa showbiz talagang it's been at the back of my head lang ever since. Pero hindi ako pinayagan kasi gusto ng parents ko prioritize muna studies ko. Pero nandiyan lang siya talaga. Never nawala yung interest ko sa pagpasok sa showbiz."

Jake role in Marry Me, Marry You

Marry Me, Marry You is described as a light family drama that plays with the idea that marrying someone also means marrying their entire family and barkada. New Kapamilya Janine Gutierrez and Paulo Avelino will top-bill the drama, while Jake's character will cause a love triangle between the two leads. Marry Me, Marry You, which is produced by Dreamscape Entertainment, has yet to announce a release date, so stay tuned for updates!
