Lately, my YouTube algorithm’s been so good at knowing just what I need to watch after a long day at work. It’s usually a new mukbanger, food series, or Korean vlog—all things I’m really into—but its most recent surprise is this video by Gigi de Lana:

I have to admit, I didn’t know who she was before I decided to click on this, but I was already googling her before the song ended.
Who is Gigi de Lana?
The singer-actress was born in Olongapo City, and she began her showbiz career when she was around eight or nine years old. Gigi recently joined Rise Artists Studio, Star Cinema's talent management arm. She was a former “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant on It’s Showtime. She was discovered by Charo Santos through her cover of “We’ve Only Just Begun” by The Carpenters.

Recently, she starred as Love Mae in the hit movie Four Sisters Before the Wedding. She auditioned for the role, btw!
In an interview, Gigi shared she was nervous to meet Carmina Villaroel and Dominic Ochoa: “Na-starstruck ako siyempre lalo na kay Papa Doms (Dominic) and kay Ms. Carmina kasi grabe, ang gagaling nilang artista and nakasama ko sila sa first movie ko.” She continued, “Si Papa Doms naman, meron siyang mga advice sa’kin about sa industry. ‘Makisama ka lang, magpasensiya ka lang’ ganyan kasi nakakausap ko rin siya, e. Si Ms. Carmina naman, as usual, ang ganda-ganda niya. Kapag nakikita ko siya, natutulala ako,”
Gigi has expressed excitement over pursuing an acting career—she’s already doing workshops—and seeing what else she can do now that she’s stepping out of her comfort zone, which has always been singing.
Growing up, Gigi listened to Celine Dion and Regine Velasquez. When asked who she dreams of sharing the stage with, the 24-year-old mentioned Regine, again, as well as Sarah Geronimo, Yeng Constantino, and Kyla. As for songs that instantly move her, Gigi was quick to answer, “Whitney Houston po.”
