*Gasp* Kim Soo Hyun Will Reportedly Earn P21 Million For Each Episode Of 'That Night'
It looks like Kim Soo Hyun is up for one monumental pay raise this year. According to an article by South Korean news outlet OSEN, the Hallyu star is set to earn a whopping 500 million won (approximately P21.4 million) for every episode of his upcoming drama, That Night. That's more than double his current acting fees, mind you!
If additional reports prove to be accurate, Soo Hyun will set a record for being the highest-paid actor in a domestic drama in the Korean entertainment industry's history. Not to mention, the aforementioned figure is only expected to increase when you take into account additional incentive pay such as advertisements and product placements.
In a short statement given to OSEN, Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, neither denied nor confirmed the news, stating that "the actor's fees cannot be confirmed" due to a confidentiality agreement.
That said, the 33-year-old isn't new to making hefty bank for his work. Soo Hyun was also previously hailed as the highest-paid South Korean actor of 2020 after raking in an estimated 200 million won (P8.5 million) per episode of his romance drama, It's Okay To Not Be Okay. The tvN show, which also starred Seo Ye Ji, served as his comeback project after being discharged from the military last 2019.

Soo Hyun's much-anticipated drama, That Night, is a Korean remake of the BBC legal thriller, Criminal Justice. According to Soompi, "The drama is about two men who get involved in a murder case." For his part, Soo Hyun will portray Kim Hyun-soo, a college student who gets embroiled in the case as its prime suspect. Meanwhile, starring alongside Soo Hyun is Cha Seung Won, who's set to play a character named Shin Joong-han, a rookie lawyer who offers his services to Hyun-soo.

Soo Hyun spoke more about the show in a recent interview with Vogue Korea, sharing that he feels no pressure at all with the possibility of his version being compared to the original. "Even if I tried to act the exact same way, it wouldn't come out the same at all. The actors are different, but also the language and the director's perspective," he said. "Most of the dramas in this genre are focused on finding the true criminal, but this drama was about the relationships between the main character and the people around him. It's about what happens when an ordinary young man is placed in extraordinary circumstances and how the people around him interpret those events."
Directed by Lee Myung Woo, That Night is expected to premiere in the latter half of 2021.
