Fans Are *Flipping Out* Over The Lyrics Of Olivia Rodridgo's New Song 'Deja Vu'

Olivia Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu” just dropped, so obviously, fans are already rushing to stream the track. The title of the song is pretty on point, TBH, because we haven’t loved a song *this* much since the release of Olivia’s number one single “Drivers License.”

“Deja Vu” got a lot of attention before its release, thanks to the beautifully cryptic teaser videos Olivia shared on Instagram. Oh, and she recently deleted her posts from the app à la Taylor Swift before her Reputation era, so that’s the ~vibe~ going into it.

“Deja Vu” is about car rides, Billy Joel, and…a message for an ex and his new girlfriend. Considering all the chatter around Olivia, Sabrina Carpenter, and Joshua Bassett when “Drivers License” topped the charts, fans are already feeling things about these new lyrics:

This is what Olivia herself told American Songwriter about the track: “I get déjà vu all the time. I thought it’d be interesting to write a song, using déjà vu, about how sometimes when somebody moves on in a relationship and they get with a new partner, you watch it and you’re like, Oh my gosh, that was all of the stuff that I did. I think that’s a really relatable, universal thing.”

Importantly, the outlet notes the details of the song are often “completely made up,” so keep that in mind before applying them directly to Olivia’s IRL relationships.

Get ready to have “Deja Vu” on repeat. You’ll probably have the lyrics memorized in a couple of days hours, but here they are just in case:

[Verse 1]

Car rides to Malibu

Strawberry ice cream, one spoon for two

And trading jackets

Laughing ’bout how small it looks on you (ha-ha-ha-ha)

Watching reruns of Glee

Bein’ annoying, singing in harmony

I bet she’s braggin’ to all her friends

Saying you’re so unique (huh)

[Pre-Chorus]

So when you gonna tell her

That we did that too? She thinks it’s special

But it’s all reused

That was our place, I found it first

I made the jokes you tell to her

When she’s with you

[Chorus]

Do you get déjà vu when she’s with you?

Do you get déjà vu? (Huh)

Do you get déjà vu, huh?

[Verse 2]

Do you call her, almost say my name?

’Cause let’s be honest, we kinda do sound the same

Another actress

I hate to think that I was just your type

And I bet that she knows Billy Joel

’Cause you played her “Uptown Girl”

You’re singing it together

Now I bet you even tell her how you love her

In between the chorus and the verse

[Pre-Chorus]

So when you gonna tell her

That we did that too? She thinks it’s special

But it’s all reused

That was the show we talked about

Played you the songs she’s singing now

When she’s with you

[Chorus]

Do you get déjà vu when she’s with you?

Do you get déjà vu? (Huh)

Do you get déjà vu, huh?

[Bridge]

Strawberry ice cream in Malibu

Don’t act like we didn’t do that shit too

You’re trading jackets like we used to do

(Yeah, everything is overused)

Play her piano, but she doesn’t know

That I was the one who taught you Billy Joel

A different girl now, but there’s nothing new

[Outro]

I know you get déjà vu

I know you get déjà vu

I know you get déjà vu
