10 Makeup Trends That Are Going To Be Huge In 2021
2020 may not have given us all the reasons to wear makeup (we may or not have answered Zoom calls camera off and wearing a sheet mask), but can we just be positive for a second and think about all the makeup looks we are going to SERVE in 2021.
With things like maskne and stressed out skin, makeup might have been the last thing on your agenda in 2020, but the 2021 trends are definitely making us even more excited to play with our beauty stash.
As all S/S21 fashion shows were held virtually, the hair and makeup seemed to be more creative than ever, with some shows even taking masks into account (because let’s face it, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon).
Keeping skin looking fresh in spite of the stress of 2020 has been the M.O, and all your hard work focusing on your skincare regime isn’t going to waste. Bobbi Brown pro artist Hollie Ellis says one of her biggest trend predictions is simply clean, hydrated, natural skin. Music to our ears, tbh. "Au natural skin is likely to be trending in 2021. A minimal base with a natural finish is proving that less is more. Perfecting the skin to really celebrate clean, natural beauty, and focusing on what we already have, rather than changing or manipulating our assets."
Eyes will be having a moment, which totally makes sense if we are still wearing masks, "The smoky eye is back and looks set to be big in 2021. Kohl liner smokey eyes are a makeup classic that will never go out of fashion," says Hollie, "They are effortless, chic and sophisticated."
And if you’re more into a bold lip, all hope is not lost. "A bold berry/ two-toned lip paired with clean minimal eye makeup, perhaps just a touch of mascara," is the trend of choice for NARS Senior Artist, Rachel Hardie. "This gives a romantic feel to the makeup."
Here are the biggest makeup trends for 2021

Smoky eyes
Yep, it’s time to vamp up your lids with deep grey or navy shadows. Matte finishes were seen at the Chanel show but you can experiment with a shimmery finish or a glossy texture if you’re feeling bold.

Brow fun
From feathery at Yohji Yamamoto to (ahem) eyebrow slits at Miu Miu, brows were the center of attention at the SS21 shows. While we are unsure if eyebrow slits will catch on, feathering up your brows is a great way to add texture and create a fuller brow.

Red hot
Red lips are a timeless makeup trend and they are going nowhere (yep, even with our continued face mask use). Just make sure you opt for one that doesn’t budge like the lippies on this list.

Radiant glow
Been on holiday recently? Us neither, but with radiant skin all over the spring/summer catwalks, a healthy glow is key for your 2021 look. Luckily, faking a glow is easy peasy nowadays, no matter what your skin tone, or how much your body is craving vitamin D.

The '80s is back
Playing with the brighter side of the color spectrum will be huge in 2021. We’re talking pinks, yellows, oranges–all the feel-good hues! Play with texture too—mattes, shimmers, and glosses are all fair game.

Juicy skin
Get that skincare regime firmed up because 2021 is the year skin is going to shine. Dewy, natural skin was everywhere at the S/S 21 shows.

Berry nice
"My favorite trend of S/S21 is so timeless," says NARS senior artist, Rachel Hardie. Applying a touch of berry-colored lipstick to the center of your lips and blotting it out will give a subtle vibe.

Under-eye sparkle
It’s time to reverse your glitter application. This year we’ll be rocking glitter under the eyes instead of on the lid. You heard it here first.

Feline liner
Into the cat-eye look? You’ll be please to know that'll be a big trend for 2021. But don’t just stick with black, it’s time to experiment with color. Think bright blues, pinks, and even orangey-reds.

Rock 'n' kohl
A thick rim of kohl around your entire lash line is a vibe for 2021. Yes, for real. Don’t hark back to your Myspace days though, no need to take inspo from 14-year-old you. Instead, let the Dior show inspire you and pair it with a nude lip and natural skin.
